One of several New York bars that claims the title of "oldest in the city", Pete's is undoubtedly one of the oldest. The first official drinking establishment - Healy's - opened here in 1864, and their current house brew, 1864 Ale, is a nod to the early New York pints poured here. The decor is pretty much what you'd expect for someplace this old: eclectic and old school. Hundreds of liquor bottles teeter behind the long mahogany bar, which runs the length of the bar and tables are clad in red-and-white checked tablecloths, nodding to the menu here, which is classic New York Italian. Just sidle up to the bar for a whiskey neat and imagine drinking with O. Henry: he was a regular here.
